Endorsement: The Daily Reflector Endorses Richard Burr
Raleigh, NC — Today, Senator Richard Burr received the endorsement of The Daily Reflector. The newspaper cited Senator Burr’s desire to “simplify an overly complex federal income tax system while eliminating loopholes in the tax code that benefit special interests,” as a motivating factor in their decision. The Daily Reflector also noted Senator Burr’s plan to repeal and replace Obamacare compared with Deborah Ross’ ardent support of the law.
Obamacare is currently embroiled in controversy once again over the premium increases set to take place in 2017 and Deborah Ross has doubled down on her belief that the failed healthcare law is the best we can do. In the recent North Association of Broadcasters Debate, Ross said she would have voted in favor of Obamacare had she been in office in 2009 when the law was passed. Senator Burr recently called on Ross to take a stand and commit to repealing Obamacare and replacing it with a program that works for North Carolina.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, 90 percent of North Carolina counties will only have one choice of insurer and recent news stories report that more than 250,000 North Carolinians will lose their plans because of the limited options. Some North Carolinians are also set to see their premiums increase anywhere from 24 percent to 40 percent for 2017.
The Greenville Daily Reflector: Burr, Butterfield, Jones for U.S. Congress
“The Daily Reflector gives its Senate endorsement to Republican incumbent Richard Burr of Winston-Salem over Democratic challenger Deborah Ross of Raleigh.
“Burr would simplify the overly complex federal income tax system while eliminating loopholes in the tax code that benefit special interests. Ross proposes to reform the tax code to allow middle-class families to keep $1,000 or more of their annual earnings and end tax breaks for companies that ship work overseas.
“Both Burr and Ross support pay equity for women.
“Burr would revive the economy and create more jobs through elimination of excessive regulatory mandates. Both candidates say they oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
“Burr has helped create the Veterans Choice program that lets veterans see a doctor of their choice if they are placed on a VA waiting list. Ross cracked down on payday lending schemes that target service members transitioning back to civilian life.
“Ross has said she supports Obamacare. Burr would vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and replace it with his “Patient CARE Act,” giving tax credits to those who do not have health insurance through their employers. He supports health insurance coverage across state lines.
