Bill aims to protect veterans' gun rights

"VA has been turning over the names of veterans who have had someone else appointed to handle their financial affairs. Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., ranking Republican on the veterans committee and sponsor of the bill, said VA has sent names of more than 117,000 veterans to the Justice Department since 1998 under the policy.

Burr said his bill would not be needed if the Justice Department changes its regulations. But the department refused to do so during the Bush administration and has shown no inclination to change course under the Obama administration."

Our food safety can't be ignored

"Economic recovery dominates the U.S. Congress these days, but thankfully, food safety also commands the attention of a number of lawmakers, including North Carolina's own Sen. Richard Burr."

Burr talks to local scouts

"In the senator's eyes, a Boy Scout is an example to the community. 'In our hearts we know what matters,' Burr said, borrowing from the inaugural address of former President George H. W. Bush.' We must hope to give them a sense of what it means to be a loyal friend, a loving parent, a citizen who leaves his home, his neighborhood and town better than he found it.' Burr reflected on the role volunteering has played in history and noted, 'It will play a distinct part of the future of this country.'"
